THE STORY

The Roots & Wings story.

Roots & Wings was created to develop hospitality teams from the ground up — from essential operational skills to confident, value-driven leadership.

Hospitality has taken me across continents, cultures and countless teams — but Indonesia has always held a special place in my journey. I first came to Indonesia in 2004, and over time, what began as curiosity grew into a deep connection with the people, the culture and the way hospitality is lived here.

In Indonesia, this felt even more important — because the natural warmth, intuition and generosity in service already exist. What is often missing is not talent, but guidance, structure and belief.

To combine international standards with local strengths. To support teams not from the outside, but from within.

HOW I TRAIN

I believe the best results come when learning is both practical and inspiring — when teams not only understand how to deliver great hospitality, but truly feel why it matters.

Through guided practice, open feedback and meaningful reflection, I help teams build confidence, consistency and heart in everything they do.

All trainings are conducted in person, designed for boutique, lifestyle, luxury and eco-conscious properties that value culture, connection and excellence. My programs are designed to bring out your team's authentic strengths while aligning with your hotel's vision and brand identity. Programs can be delivered in English, German, or Bahasa Indonesia (for basic level training).

I focus on real situations, real challenges and practical solutions. Each program is tailored to your hotel's needs, concept, service approach and long-term goals.

ABOUT THE FOUNDER

Christine Schöner — two decades, lived from within.

BACKGROUND & EXPERIENCE
  • 15+ years in international hospitality
  • Former General Manager across Europe and Asia
  • Extensive pre-opening and operational experience
  • Leadership roles across boutique, lifestyle, and luxury hotels
  • Operational experience across Germany, Netherlands, Thailand, Egypt, and Indonesia
  • Experience leading teams of up to 60+ staff and 12 department heads
  • Proven track record in stabilizing and improving operations in complex environments

Hospitality has shaped my life for more than two decades — not only professionally, but personally. My connection to Indonesia began in 2004, and over the years my work has taken me across Germany, the Netherlands, Thailand, Egypt, and Indonesia through leadership roles in boutique, lifestyle, and luxury hospitality environments.

Trained through Hilton Germany's dual education hospitality programme and certified by the German Chamber of Commerce, I later continued executive education in Leadership and Hospitality Financial Management at Cornell University School of Hotel Administration. I am also a certified coach through Bridgehouse Coaching Academy Berlin.

As a hands-on General Manager and hospitality leader, I have led pre-openings, managed multi-department hotel operations, and worked through complex operational environments including restructures, rapid growth phases, system transitions, and crisis periods such as COVID-19. My approach has always remained deeply embedded in daily operations — working within teams rather than from the outside.

After years leading hotel operations across Europe and Asia, Roots & Wings grew from a desire to bring together international hospitality standards with a more grounded, human, and practical approach to leadership and training.
